Age Recommendation:

Ndendile is that rare South African piece of theatre that bridges urban and rural traditions and, in so doing, reflects the fact that, regardless of our origins, who we fall in love with is a matter of a heart not head.

This sensitive and poignant love story happens to be between two men. Their return to Thabani’s traditional village in search of approval exposes the personal prejudices of many in the village and tests his father’s love for his son.

The history of homosexuality in traditional African culture is seldom explored on stage and this is a glimpse into interpretation of traditional culture and the impact of urbanisation – a reminder that love is as old and as timeless as any cultural tradition.

This show has won numerous awards during Youth on Top Heritage Festival, including Best Production in 2014 and Best Production 2nd place, Zabalaza Festival, Best Supporting actor – Zabalaza – Inga Duda and Outright-Faisit Award for Performance Excellence, Zabalaza, 2015 – Sinoxolo Cezula.
