Age Recommendation:

Through the allegory of air and breath (w)asem speaks about the anxieties that come with being a queer individual in an oppressive system, being a person of colour in a white community and, lastly, the meta-theatricality of being a person with deep personal anxieties who has to be an actor in front of an audience. The play is full of dark humour, addressing social injustices and highlighting the importance of expressing yourself no matter how impossible it may feel. This mainly Afrikaans production by Du Toit Albertze and Terence Makapan mixes white Afrikaner culture with coloured Afrikaner culture.
