Benjamin Jephta, the 2017 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for Jazz, is performing at the Cape Town Fringe – for one show only!

Brought to you by Standard Bank, and hosted at the German Club in Roodehek Terrace on Sunday 1 October at 7pm, Benjamin Jephta Elektrik will perform original jazz compositions interwoven with rap/spoken word. The compositions have a strong African and gospel influence and the sound of the Cape where Benjamin grew up. Music will be performed from his latest album, The Evolution of an Undefined, as well as from his debut album, Homecoming.

For this performance, he will be joined by 2016 Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz, Kyle Shepherd on piano, Sphelelo Mazibuko (drums), Marcus Wyatt (trumpet/flugelhorn) and Quintin ‘Jitsvinger’ Goliath.

Benjamin Jephta, has already made a name for himself as one of South Africa’s premier jazz double bass and electric bass players and has been nominated for Metro FM and SAMA awards as well as winning the SAMRO Wawela Music Award for ‘Best Male Artist’ and ‘Songwriter of the Year’.

This performance fuses his love for jazz with hip-hop, electronic and rock music, reflecting the influence of popular culture on young people in the 21st century.
